The National Science foundation is the primary funding agency for ground-based astronomy in the United States.
Dr. Terndrup, who now is associated with both the National Science Foundation and Ohio State University, will
begin his talk with a brief sketch of how research groups apply for and receive funding, and how the NSF proposal
review process works. Then he will discuss several cutting-edge projects now being undertaken to study exoplanets,
stars in the Milky Way and other galaxies, and the Universe as a whole. He will emphasize how research proceeds
from fascinating ideas to final results
